4th Credit Hour Volunteer Project

Dear All,

This is the blog where any of you (and only those in this class) may post and comment on our 4th credit hour volunteer initiative. I received an email from the university today that it is giving a monetary donation to Houston victims of Hurricane Harvey. I also heard on the news driving home that in all probability climate change is responsible for about 10% of the storm's severity. I am not suggesting that our efforts go to Harvey survivors, but I am thinking about how institutions respond, how the wealthy can respond, and what we all might do to help those affected indirectly or directly with some oil-related (Harvey counts, as does Mumbai, as does Tar Sands, etc...) process (like extraction, burning, etc...) and/or disaster... This coming weekend I will ask you all to post your ideas of how and on whom we might focus our attentions. What does it mean to help? What do we envision our service can do? What role might you like to play in this project?
